6'5" Eddie Hedqvist commits to Pacific Tigers
18-year old Swedish Point Guard provides more backcourt depth
Rounding out his backcourt, Pacific Head Coach Dave Smart is pleased to share that 6’4” Edrisa “Eddie” Hedqvist, a product of the Swedish basketball system with solid international experience, has committed to Pacific.
Still only 18 years old, Hedqvist comes off a season with club team KRUM Fryshuset Basket U19 where he was named to the USM Basket Final Four All-star team after a solid summer of 2023 with the Swedish U19 National team which competed in the FIBA U19 European championship.
Coach Smart on Eddie: “I think he has a chance to be a great player with our program. He shoots it well and he’s physical and athletic as a big guard. He reads the game well for a young player. Most importantly, he wants to work and he understands that’s what it takes. I think as a freshman, he can help us right away.”
Hedqvist was a steady contributor to Sweden’s U18 European Championship tournament team last summer in Nis, Serbia. Eddie finished the tournament strong, averaging 15.5 points over the final two games against quality opponents Lithuania and Croatia. Here are some highlights of Eddie from that tournament.
Eddie spent the past three seasons with KRUM Fryshuset Basket in Sweden’s Basketligan honing his skills domestically and arrives in Stockton as a true freshman and Pacific’s 7th international player (including Canadians).
With now 11 players in the stable, the staff will look to round out the final two spots to the full allotment of 13 scholarships.
